Statement from former band director’s attorney regarding FDLE findings.
From the office of Attorney Chuck Hobbs:
“Dr. White is pleased that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigation into alleged financial impropriety within the Florida A&M University Marching 100 has been completed and that he has been exonerated of any wrongdoing.
Since last December, Dr. White has cooperated with the FDLE as agents combed through volumes of university records as well as his own banking records which he gladly forwarded to the agency for inspection.
In 2007, when Dr. White learned that thousands of dollars in band dues had been stolen, he notified the FAMU Police Department and cooperated fully as the department conducted its investigation. Lamenting the loss in funds on his watch, Dr. White offered to make personal remuneration for the lost funds, but the FAMU PD case was closed without such a transaction being officially requested by the university.
Further, as the FDLE report completely delineates, Dr. White also was cleared of any culpable negligence or misconduct with respect to monies that he paid, per contract, to his band staff for offseason performances and festivals that the band attended.”
