When homeowners go to sell their house, the last thing they expect to hear is they are not allowed, due to a lien. According to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, a lien could be filed against your property from a previous owner. If that happens, your property could be sold against your will. It is important for a homeowner to know if their property or house has a lien. Lawyer, Daniel Hartman says there are a number of steps to take once you have discovered the lien.

“If it’s a judgment or other type of lien, you can contact the person who holds the lien. Then you can negotiate with them and try to get them to file what’s called a release of lien to get the lien cleared from the property.”

Hartman says if you are looking to find out more information on liens, it is best to contact a local title company. They will be able to assist in finding liens and helping take the next step to have them removed.
